How does the Responsible Grid Pilot work?

The Responsible Grid Pilot program saves you money on electricity bills while helping our community and environment.

Living in New York, we all know how brutal summer electricity bills can get when those air conditioners are running non-stop. But did you know that during times of peak electricity, the grid kicks on high-emmission fossil power plants to meet demand?

That's why we created this pilot program—to give New Yorkers like you a way to reduce costs while making a positive impact on climate change.

How It Works In 3 Simple Steps

  1. We provide a free battery that connects to your window/portable AC unit
    • No costs or fees to participate
    • We deliver and pick up the equipment when the program ends
  2. Your AC runs on battery power during peak electricity times from May to September
    • Earn electricity savings from ConEd with no impact on your AC's performance
  3. Everything is managed remotely through your WiFi
    • No buttons to push or settings to adjust. Set it and forget it.

Our compact, “shoe box”-sized battery system uses safe lithium iron phosphate technology that quietly powers your AC during peak demand periods without you noticing any difference. Once connected to WiFi, it works its magic automatically while helping the electrical grid.
